November 7, 2019, was the global Read for the Record day. On this day, people all over the world read
the book Thank You, Omu by Oge Mora. The goal was not only to see how many people could read the
same book on the same day, but to emphasize need for literacy for everyone. Freeman Elementary
participated in this day by dressing in our pajamas and eating a “snack stew”. The older grades were
paired with the younger grades to read the story together. Students also created quilt squares,
reflecting the themes of kindness and gratitude found in the book.
