Seniors at Freeman High School took a critical step in the college preparation process when they participated in a college application event.

During the event at Freeman, seniors were able to get hands-on help with college applications from Mrs. Kelly and admissions representatives from UNK, Doane, Midland University and SCC. We had all seniors participate. Several students had already applied and including early applications and our seniors have sent out over 70 applications to various schools. In addition to applying to schools seniors also learned about financial aid and participated in an online quiz guessing trivia questions about Freeman staff college experiences.  Winners of the competition were Emma Alberts, Tyler Adams and Mary Zeman. College reps stayed and visited briefly with juniors and sophomores.

The event is part of a statewide Apply2College Campaign sponsored by EducationQuest Foundation. Over 200 high schools statewide are conducting Apply2College events this fall to help high school seniors apply to at least one college.

The Apply2College Campaign is part of the American College Application Campaign initiative sponsored by the American Council on Education. All states are now participating in the annual program. States that have participated in previous years are finding that as many as 79 percent of students who submit a college application go on to attend college.
