FACILITY PLANNING TIMELINE

PRIOR TO 2020

  • In 2006, a bond issue was passed that included construction of the current elementary wing, library, music rooms, ag shop and classroom, art room, and elementary office.

  • In 2012, a bond issue was passed that included construction of the current North gym, locker rooms, offices, classrooms, commons, ad concessions area.

  • In 2014, a new football/track stadium was completed without the use of bond funds.

  • In 2019, Freeman's two existing bonds were refinanced.

2020-2021

  • The Freeman district and Board of Education (BOE) completed the long-range strategic planning process. With input from staff, parents, and patrons, the following guiding principle and goal were developed regarding facilities and infrastructure:

Guiding Principle: Growth-Ready Facilities and Infrastructure

Goal: The Freeman Public Schools BOE and community will engage in continuous planning to ensure district facilities and infrastructure meet the needs of Freeman students and will take the necessary steps to maintain, alter, and improve facilities as deemed necessary.

2021-2022

  • Freeman staff and BOE explored options to expand facilities for Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities.

  • The district engaged a local architect to assist in planning a remote CTE facility.

  • This planning and identifying additional facility needs led to the Board of Education's decision to conduct a full facility study.

2022-2023

  • In August 2022, Freeman's BOE approved Clark & Enerson Architectural Firm to conduct a facility study.

    The facility study was completed in June 2023.

  • Five priorities were identified based on the needs of the district:

Career and Technical Education (CTE)

Kitchen

Cafeteria and Commons

Preschool

  • A potential concept plan was created based on the facility study results and identified priorities.

2023-2024

  • Community engagement meetings were held in the Fall of 2023 to share the results of the facility study and the potential concept plan.

  • The Freeman BOE approved pre-bond services through Clark & Enersen.

  • Construction delivery methods and bond financing scenarios were discussed with the Freeman BOE.

  • The concept plan was updated based on feedback received from the BOE, Freeman staff, and patrons.

2024-2025

  • In December 2024, the Freeman BOE approved a resolution calling for a patron vote on a bond issue not to exceed $26,910,000 to expand CTE, preschool improvements, add classrooms, and provide necessary updates throughout the facilities.

  • The mail-in vote is scheduled for March 11th. Please see the "Voter Information" page for specific details.
